I’m kidding I’m back. I just can’t not share hilarious stuff like this with you guys

LOOK. HOW. SHORT. HE. IS.

The story isn’t hilarious, but the sizing… He’s almost Hiei size. Unknown artist, though, original translator either didn’t have cover or couldn’t read it. If anyone recognizes it, please let me know!

If you could 5 members to be on your team in the dark tournament would it be?

Ooh! A fun one!

I assume the 5th is the backup.

So, ANY characters, that means Yomi, Mukuro, and Raizen are tops, since they are most powerful. But that’s too easy and obvious. So assuming all characters are equal in strength but still have their special abilities –

So, I’d have one person who could fill each role and be prepared for all types of opponents.

Genkai in case healing or speed is needed (over Hiei simply because she seems to have more tricks and can be deceptive in her strength). She’d likely be the backup fighter. Also an all rounder.

Then Mukuro for the dimension slicing as a strange power that can beat interesting opponents and her cool demeanor that’d help her stay calm.

Yomi for his amazing shields in case there is an energy heavy opponent, such as Yusuke or Kuwabara.

Kurama for his intellect, preferably Yoko Kurama, for the tricky ones.

And Younger Toguro for the sheer strength.

Thanks for the ask!

I just think about prideful snarky op af Youko being stuck as a baby He cried all the time But not cuz he was a baby with overwhelming feelings about his new life. It was because he was a adult having existential crisis and had overwhelming feelings about his new life. Its very different he desperately needs you to know that to maintain his sanity.

Haha! Is this in reference to this comic?

In all seriousness though, I think a major reason why Yoko Kurama became less prideful, more likely to suffer insults and keep his thoughts to himself, and incredibly patient, is because he had to suffer such indignities for a decade. In order to survive as a human child, he needed someone to feed and clothe him. So even if Shiori grounded him or chastised him, he had no choice but to take it because if he acted on his demon urges and slaughtered the poor woman for her insults toward his pride, he’d be left defenseless. He had to learn to cope with not being in control. Not just from his mother, but teachers, policemen, other authority figures. In order to recover his strength, the demon Kurama was had to adapt to being a lil’ bitch to every adult.

Also, you know, once you start shitting yourself uncontrollably while still in perfect mental health, you’re gonna lose that pride real fast lol

Thanks for chatting! You’re always welcome to send me asks like this 🙂

Blog Update

Hi guys. I’m sorry I haven’t posted any DJs in a while, or even regular reblogs. I’ve been out of work for a while and just didn’t have the time or energy to keep up with the blog. I’ll try to keep updating at least on a weekly basis. I’m also slowly running out of translated works. I’m editing one with the help of a wonderful volunteer who translated a short doujinshi for me, so that might be out soon.

If anyone else can volunteer, that would be very helpful. I still have a giant folder of raw scans.

Also, if you’d like to submit anything, fanart, fanfiction, headcanons, anything, just use the submit button. It’d be very helpful to have some extra content thrown in 🙂

Some highlights from the Survey!

Genkai technically gets hit with the ‘depowered for a man’s growth’ trope but this is immediately followed by her continuing to KICK ASS in the Dark Tournament bc her depowered self is still amazing.

Mod Lola agrees wholeheartedly! I never saw the transfer of the spirit wave orb as that trope because she went and not only beat Shishi and Suzuka, thus assuring Team Urameshi made it to the finals, as an 70 year old depowered grandma, but she also went right after that to fight Toguro. While she lost badly, the fight was still amazingly epic, and her words of wisdom from that fight have stayed with this mod forever!

It’s depressing af but also friendship saves the day

Tru dat

… the story and characters tries to break the mold for what is common in the shounen genre.

Very much in agreement! I have always loved shonen anime/manga, but YYH broke so many trends that I couldn’t help but fall in love. Not just tropes in shonen, but in the Hero’s Journey in general. Yusuke’s mentor is an old lady, not an old man. Mukuro bends all sorts of gender rules with her nonchalant attitude towards being called king and her appearance. Botan, the “main” girl doesn’t get with the “main guy.” Yusuke’s friends actually become weaker when he dies, demoralized. Instead of getting a power boost of pure rage, they mourn him, their heads not in the game at all.

I could go on for days!

What keeps me loving the series for all these years has been the personality dynamics between the main four guys. Without their balance and the way everyone plays off of one another, YYH would run the risk of becoming just another shonen fighting anime.

Very much so! The four boys play off each other very nicely, each having a unique, interesting relationship with each other. They’re not all just Goku-worshipers; they love Yusuke, yes, but they also have loyalties to each other. They’re a true group, a true team, not just Yusuke and his buds.

When I was younger I loved the action. Now I love it for nostalgia.

This mod can relate. It’s my comfort anime.

I’ll update again when there’s more fun stuff said in the survey!

Until then, Mod Lola signing out!
