Continuing the Cruel Love Series: “The Cruelest Love in the World – Act 1: Separation″ by Arina Toshimi.

Summary: “Dream Crime” was the first installment, followed by “A Space closed in Secrecy, part 1 and 2,” and established Kurama’s unhealthy obsession and love for Hiei, who seems resistant to his advances. After Kurama attempts to harm Yukina, Hiei gives into Kurama, though Kurama still keeps the physical contact to just pleasuring Hiei. He did, after all, want Hiei to be his… not to be giving himself up for someone else.

But suddenly, Kurama changes his mind. His fight with Karasu puts a different perspective on his actions, and when the gang returns home… Kurama begins to act strangely, and a new threat awaits Hiei.

The rest of this series will deal with how this obsession plays out, for both Kurama and Hiei.

He’s getting what he wants… isn’t he?

(For clarification, this segment ends with Kurama not forcing Hiei into intercourse. Instead, his “love” seems to hold him back from hurting Hiei. And Hiei, though he is doing all of this to protect Yukina, does not show aggression or hesitation towards Kurama… even cuddling with him in bed.

This is Arina’s special blend of “cruel love,” her complex characterization of these two people; One helplessly obsessed and unused to not having what he wants – now wanting not just the physical but the emotional heart of his lover. And the other, hesitant, skirting the line between accepting sacrifice and finding an excuse to do what he does… The rest shall be continued in “The Cruelest Love in the World, Act 1,” the first of the series to bear the name that has come to refer to the whole of this saga.)

(And end… for now. Soon to be continued in “A space closed in Secrecy, part 2″)

This continues a series Arina Toshima created. It is dark, and troubling. It paints Kurama as an incredibly complex, psychotic, yet almost sympathetic character. I will include brief summaries and links to previous parts of this series, as it stretches over a few posts. If you’ve read her other work, you will see many similarities to them here, but this story, loosely called “The Cruelest Love in the World,” encompasses a longer, fuller story than her previous work.

Summary“Dream Crime” was the first installment in this series, and established Kurama’s unhealthy obsession and love for Hiei, who seems hesitant, almost resistant, to his advances. In that comic, Kurama’s obsession is showcased by his nightmares of murdering Yukina, so that he may be the most important person to Hiei. It is not important to read it to understand this series, but it is recommended, and therefore linked above. The rest of this series will deal with how that obsession plays out, for both Kurama, and for Hiei.

  • For an easier reading experience, I will tag these as “Cruel Love part ½/3,” etc., short for the series’ unofficial title. “Dream Crime,” from now on will have the tag “Cruel love part 1.” This next part will be tagged “Cruel love part 2.” The next installment will be called “Cruel love part 3.” That way you can find it easier and see if there are updates. Other Arina Toshimi comics might appear in between that are not part of the series.

Now comes  “A space Closed in Secrecy,” in which Kurama contemplates his nightmare from “Dream Crime” more… and takes action.

PART 2

Rating for the series: R. Forced consent, sexual harassment, sexual assault, psychological assault. Nudity.

(I apologize for this page, I do not know why it is messed up. To spare your eyes, here is what they are saying)

Yusuke: “If Hiei can’t find her with his Jagan, maybe somebody’s imprisoned her behind wards again? Shit! We don’t have any leads at all!”

Kuwabara: “Yukina-san, whatever has happened to you… I, Kazuma Kuwabara, will rescue you at all costs!”

Botan: “Oh, it’s all right! We know what the kidnapper wants.”

Kuwabara: “You should have said that before!!”

(Note: Kurama repeats the lie Hiei says in the anime. They do have the same mother, Hina. Whether Arina knew this, or Kurama knows this at this point in the “series” (it is not clear where in the canon this takes place), or whether he is simply messing with her, is unclear.)

(Yes, a cliffhanger 🙂 stay tuned.)

“Oedipus’ Lover,” by Mizushima Yui.

Kurahi, AU, part of longer series it seems, but I cannot find the rest.

Despite the title, it is incredibly tame, so –

Rating: PG, incest but not really?

(Does adopted family count as incest? I honestly don’t know, haha)
