So… I know you ship Kurahi, but I’m wondering, who do you prefer as the seme?

ESee, I don’t exclusively see one as a “top” or “bottom.” More like, I think they’d have their preferences in certain cases. In my headcanon, especially at the beginning of their relationship, they’d default to Kurama bottoming and Hiei topping. My reasons are because 1, I think it takes more vulnerability and willingness to trust others to let someone shove something up your butthole. So I think Hiei would need to get used to intimacy first before he’d let someone do that to him. He’d also have to get used to intimacy where he was in control before he’d be willing to try other types of sex. Typically, the person who tops sets the rhythm. I think it’d start there, and then perhaps move to Kurama riding him, Hiei letting go more and more of that control and letting someone else see him fall apart, before he’d be willing to “bottom.”

With Kurama, I think he’s a total vers, but with Hiei specifically, he is more likely to take the bottom position because of the points raised above. Essentially, he doesn’t want to push Hiei, and he thinks Hiei being the one who is in control and sets the pace will help the situation. That, plus I think it takes a bit more maturity and experience to be comfortable with anal. Since we are speaking of seme/uke, aka top/bottom, we’re talking primarily about anal here. It’s not something everyone likes from the start, it can be painful, feel weird, or just be a scary thought. So I think Kurama, who had done this before, would be more willing to bottom. Also, the size difference might frighten Hiei a bit lol

That said, I adore the idea that later on, when they’re more comfortable and Hiei is totally a-okay with intimacy, that Hiei loves Yoko Kurama going wild on him.

So, in simple terms, I guess the order goes, Kurama, Hiei, Yoko, with Kurama mostly bottoming, Hiei switching, and Yoko mostly topping.

Hope you enjoyed that explanation, anon lol, and thanks for sending the question in!

Sure, anon 🙂 I haven’t seen these, but if I ever do, I’ll be sure to post them.

It was nice to read the analysis you recently reblogued. I totally love the ship between Kurama and Hiei because of how close they seem to be and… I don’t know if you previously mentioned this or if you already answered this kind of question, but: I don’t know where or when I read this, but I clearly remember that the mangaka initially thought to make Hiei and Kurama boyfriends but in the end he didn’t, did you know about it and what do you think of this fact? Please correct me if I am wrong

Hi Anon 🙂

So, that’s actually a rumor. It has existed since the ‘ole livejournal days. Claims are made that an interview exists that confirms it, but no one has ever been able to produce it or say where it was said. So we can only speculate.

As for my own beliefs, I could see it as true. It was the 90s, after all, and at the time, making gay (especially male) characters was still largely taboo. Think about how Miyuki, a trans woman, was treated, even though Togashi was and still is considered relatively progressive for the times we was writing in. His only more or less confirmed same sex couple is Itsuki and Sensui, and in the English version, at least, it’s made clear Itsuki loves the female personality of Sensui. And of course, they are villains. Sailor Moon’s male gay characters, also mostly villains.

My point here being, at the time, writing good guys as gay was difficult. Togashi already skirted the line with Yusuke asking Kuwabara to kiss him, and the anime even animating the dream sequence where Kuwabara nearly does. But I don’t think he could have, if he wanted to, make an actual good gay couple. I think Shonen Jump would have shut that down quickly. So if he was leaning toward it, I would not be shocked that some higher up told him no, so instead he left hints (if you ship them, at least).

Of course, he could have also simply written them as good friends, and we all know that male friendship in Togashi’s work can be a tad bit gay sometimes. Or maybe he had always meant for them to be a secret. Or maybe we’re all reading into it, and he never meant for Kurahi to be any sort of ship.

My personal opinion… He thought about it, left tiny hints, but knew from the start he wouldn’t be able to do it, so he didn’t.

Thanks for sending in the ask! Anyone else have opinions? Anything they’d like to add? Reblog or reply 🙂

On the topic of art/fanfics you love disappearing: I once read this AMAZING YYH fanfic titled “When the Wisteria Blooms”. It was one of my favorite YYH fanfics. A few years ago, it disappeared from Fanfiction(.)net. I deeply regret not saving it somehow, because it was so good. Anyway, the point I’m trying to get at is that I appreciate you recovering/saving lost masterpieces of the YYH fandom, whether they be fanfics, doujins, or art.

Thank you for sharing your story. 🙂 Does anyone know if that fanfic was moved anywhere or saved by someone? It’d be great if we could get it back!

Thanks for posting Arina Toshimi’s doujinshi! Aaaah such memories from 10 years ago when I first saw them and it’s the first time I actually read cruel love almost entirely. I think I got to part 13, but is there more after both Hiei and Kurama forget? Thanks for the uploads!

Hi! I don’t have anything after that point, so I can’t tell if there was ever a continuation. It’s possible, but I haven’t seen anything. If anyone has any information, could you please let us know? 🙂

And oh, I have such intense memories from a decade ago looking at these as well! Haha

If you could 5 members to be on your team in the dark tournament would it be?

Ooh! A fun one!

I assume the 5th is the backup.

So, ANY characters, that means Yomi, Mukuro, and Raizen are tops, since they are most powerful. But that’s too easy and obvious. So assuming all characters are equal in strength but still have their special abilities –

So, I’d have one person who could fill each role and be prepared for all types of opponents.

Genkai in case healing or speed is needed (over Hiei simply because she seems to have more tricks and can be deceptive in her strength). She’d likely be the backup fighter. Also an all rounder.

Then Mukuro for the dimension slicing as a strange power that can beat interesting opponents and her cool demeanor that’d help her stay calm.

Yomi for his amazing shields in case there is an energy heavy opponent, such as Yusuke or Kuwabara.

Kurama for his intellect, preferably Yoko Kurama, for the tricky ones.

And Younger Toguro for the sheer strength.

Thanks for the ask!
