This serves 3 purposes; I have such a weakness for Kurama in a ponytail, these two have the cutest BroTP ever, and Kuwabara needs some serious props.
Kuwabara goes from a hot-headed street punk with no prospects to a mature and circumspect man who manages to get into an elite high school. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the fandom doesn’t deserve Kazuma Kuwabara. For too long we never recognized how hard it is to step away from your group, to recognize your limits and to forge your own path. There is something truly remarkable about his character and as I get older I appreciate it more and more.
I also think that Kurama deeply appreciates Kuwabara for a multiple of reasons. Like Kurama, Kuwabara chose a human life, but more than that I think Kurama has always admired Kuwabara’s honesty. He is always so straightforward, even when it doesn’t serve him and Kurama recognizes the strength that takes. Also, I think he can empathize with Kuwabara’s goal to reform himself. I can’t say that I’ll ever ship Kuwama because I can only ever see Kuwabara with Yukina, but there is something so wholesome in their relationship. Oftentimes Kurama’s relationships involve him serving as an anchor, confidant, or role model to others. And while he does this with Kuwabara, I think Kuwabara also serves to be someone that Kurama strives to be as well.
