This year’s 23rd issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine revealed more details on Wednesday for the upcoming original animation for the Yu Yu Hakusho anime.
The anime will adapt the “Two Shot” bonus chapter from the manga’s seventh volume, as well as the manga’s penultimate chapter “All or Nothing.” The “Two Shot” chapter tells the story of how Kurama and Hiei met, while “All or Nothing” shows the main characters reuniting to solve a hostage crisis in the spirit world. The anime will feature a returning staff, including director and storyboarder Noriyuki Abe at the studio Pierrot. Returning cast members include Nozomu Sasaki as Yusuke Urameshi, Shigeru Chiba as Kazuma Kuwabara, Megumi Ogata as Kurama, and Nobuyuki Hiyama as Hiei.
The OVA will bundle with the fourth part of the anime’s 25th Anniversary Blu-ray Box collection. The fourth part will ship on October 26 in Japan.
The first part will include the “Spirit Detective” arc (episodes 1-26), as well as both movies, and will ship on July 27. The set will be the first Blu-ray Disc release for the second movie. The second set will include the 40-episode “Dark Tournament” arc and will ship on August 28. The third set will include the 28-episode “Sensui” (Chapter Black) arc and will ship on September 26. The fourth set will include the 18-episode “Demon World” arc as well as the OVA. All four sets will also include clean openings and endings.
I wonder if there will be a dubbed version as well? I know it is so early. It doesn’t even seem like there’s any news of when and where this will be available in English subtitles for international audiences to buy, much less hear it in English. But god, I hope against all hope that Hiei’s and Yusuke’s voice actors reprise their roles for a dub!
“The Cruelest Love in the World – A Space Closed in Secrecy, Part 2″ by Arina Toshimi.
Summary: “Dream Crime” was the first installment, followed by “A Space closed in Secrecy, part 1,” and established Kurama’s unhealthy obsession and love for Hiei, who seems resistant to his advances. Kurama’s obsession is showcased by his nightmares of murdering Yukina, so that he may be the most important person to Hiei. But his human conscience stops him, and Yukina is alive. But now that Hiei knows that Kurama will do anything to have him, he’ll do anything in kind to protect his sister. But is this what Kurama wanted? For Hiei to give himself up for someone else’s sake? He’s getting what he wants… isn’t he?
The rest of this series will deal with how this obsession plays out, for both Kurama and Hiei.
To find all parts of this series, search for the tags “tagged/cruel_love_part_½/3″ etc.
Now continues “A space Closed in Secrecy, part 2” in which we glimpse the consequences of Hiei’s decision.
Rating for the series: R. Forced consent, sexual harassment, sexual assault, psychological assault. Nudity. Dubious consent.
(For clarification, this segment ends with Kurama not forcing Hiei into intercourse. Instead, his “love” seems to hold him back from hurting Hiei. And Hiei, though he is doing all of this to protect Yukina, does not show aggression or hesitation towards Kurama… even cuddling with him in bed.
This is Arina’s special blend of “cruel love,” her complex characterization of these two people; One helplessly obsessed and unused to not having what he wants – now wanting not just the physical but the emotional heart of his lover. And the other, hesitant, skirting the line between accepting sacrifice and finding an excuse to do what he does… The rest shall be continued in “The Cruelest Love in the World, Act 1,” the first of the series to bear the name that has come to refer to the whole of this saga.)
